Welcome to the Office of Continuous Professional Development and Strategic Affairs (OCPDSA). Our office is located at 3555 Harden Street Ext., Suite 100 (15 Medical Park), Columbia, South Carolina 29203. We are affiliated with the University of South Carolina School of Medicine and Palmetto Health. Our goal is to facilitate continuous professional development for our physician learners so that they can fulfill their potential throughout their careers and ultimately, impact patient care and well-being. In addition, we provide faculty development to support the teaching efforts at our affiliated institutions.
We are committed to improving physicians’ competence and performance in the ACGME/ABMS general competency areas; fostering a positive impact on patient outcomes; meeting regulatory and institutional requirements, and stimulating life-long learning. Our collaborators include School of Medicine faculty, community-based clinicians, hospital-based clinicians, quality improvement offices, institutional leadership, professional associations, and health-related state agencies.
Continuing Medical Education (CME) The University of South Carolina School of Medicine - Palmetto Health Continuing Medical Education Organization (USCSOM-PH CME Org) is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) to provide continuing medical education for physicians.
Accreditation with Commendation - The University of South Carolina School of Medicine – Palmetto Health CME Organization has been surveyed by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME) and awarded Accreditation with Commendation for six years (March 2015 – March 2021) as a provider of continuing medical education for physicians.
The ACCME employs a rigorous, multilevel process for evaluating institutions' continuing medical education programs according to the high accreditation standards adopted by all seven ACCME member organizations. These organizations of medicine in the US are the American Board of Medical Specialties, the American Hospital Association, the American Medical Association, the Association for Hospital Medical Education, the Association of American Medical Colleges, the Council of Medical Specialty Societies, and the Federation of State Medical Boards of the US, Inc.
